CSGO Collections

CSGO Collections are selections of CSGO skins brought out together by Valve. To date, they have released around 36 different collections – with some of the most recent being the hugely popular Mirage Collection, the Vertigo Collection, The Train Collection and the Dust 2 collection which were all released in 2021, all as a part of the Operation Riptide.

Skin Collections

Let’s take a look more closely at exactly what they are. Well, apart from knife skins, all weapon skins are organised into collections. The contents of one single case outside (not including the rare and special items) are all considered as part of one collection. For those items that were not case items, they are all put into collections based on a specific theme. This theme might be based on one of the maps (such as the Vertigo Collection of 2021) or they may be based on an external popular theme like the recent Gods and Monsters Collection that was released.

If you are receiving a random drop, then the skin that you acquire doesn’t necessarily depend on which map you are playing from. So, just because you play on Vertigo, it doesn’t mean you will get a skin from the Vertigo Collection and playing on Train doesn’t guarantee you one that comes from the Train skin collection.

However, if you open a specific case, then you will get a skin from the collection that the case comes from.

Operation Exclusive CSGO Collections

An operation-exclusive collection is only available to a CSGO player that has both bought and activated an Operation Pass. There are four exclusive collections that were introduced in the most recent Operation Riptide, which include The 2021 Dust 2, 2021 Mirage, 2021 Train and the 2021 Vertigo collections.

Operation Riptide

You could purchase a random skin from one of these collections directly from the Operation Riptide Store, in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive game client by using four stars. Each collection in this operation was released on 22nd September 2021

Operation Broken Fang

The collections from the Operation Broken Fang include the Ancient Collection, The Control Collection and the Havoc Collection. You could purchase a random skin from one of these collections from the Operation Broken Fang Store in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive game client using four stars. The CSGO skins from these Broken Fang collections were made available to players on the 15th May 2021.

It is believed that The Ancient Collection might well reappear in a souvenir package made available at the next CS GO majors after the ‘Ancient’ demolition map was made an active part of the duty map pool.

Operation Shattered Web

The Operation Shattered Web saw the introduction of another three brand new collections – the Norse Collection, Canals Collection and the St. Marc Collection.

These three collections could only be acquired for a limited time – throughout the entire duration of Operation Shattered Web, between 18th November 2019 and the end of the operation on 31st March 2020.

Operation Hydra, Operation Wildfire, Operation Bloodhound

The three operations – Hydra, Wildfire and Bloodhound awarded those CSGO players that had an active operation pass with a random skin from one of these collections: Chop Shop, Cache, Gods and Monsters, Cobblestone, Rising Sun or Overpass.

The Gods and Monsters collection, Rising Sun collection and hop Shop collection were first introduced at the beginning of the Operation Bloodhound. They continued to be in use in further operations before they were finally discontinued on 13th November 2017, when Operation Hydra came to its conclusion.

However, the Cache and Overpass collections are still available to players as souvenir packages throughout CS:GO majors. Meanwhile, the Cobblestone collection hasn’t been available to players in any way, even as a souvenir package, since the final of the Eleague Major in Boston, 2018.

These collections dropped skins via the weekly CSGO drop scheme as opposed to the Active Collection drop pool, only made available to game players who have a valid and current operation pass.

Active Collections

The active collection drops CSGO skins via the weekly drop schemes. This weekly drop scheme resets each Wednesday and randomly awards players either with a CSGO skin from one of the current active collections or with a random graffiti.

The Active Collections CSGO drop pool was changed back in 2018 when the 2018 Nuke and 2018 Inferno were added. It has remained the same ever since.

The current Active Collections include:

  • The 2018 Inferno Collection: 1st September 2018
  • The 2018 Nuke Collection: 1st September 2018
  • The 2014 Bank Collection: 1st May 2014
  • The Dust 2 Collection: 27th November 2013
  • The Italy Collection: 27th November 2013
  • The Lake Collection: 27th November 2013
  • The Safehouse Collection: 27th November 2013
  • The Train Collection: 27th November 2013

Inactive CSGO Collections

As the name suggests, an inactive collection isn’t available via the game’s weekly drop. Any CSGO skins from one of these collections will only ever become available by opening a souvenir package or a gift package – or, of course, by trading with other players or searching through the Steam Market.

Inactive collections include:

  • The Ancient Collection: 3rd December 2020
  • The Assault Collection: 14th August 2013
  • The Aztec Collection: 14th Collection 2013

  • The Rising Sun Collection: 26th May 2015
  • Th St. Marc Collection: 18th November 2019
  • The Vertigo Collection: 14th August 2013

Retired CSGO Collections

If a collection has been retired then the skins won’t drop at all, which means that the only way possible of getting a skin from one of these collections is via the Steam Community Market or trading with other players. One of the most interesting of these was the Blacksite Collection, which was only ever available in the first couple of weeks of the Dangersone game-mode launch.

Retired CSGO Collections include:

  • The Alpha Collection: 9th September 2013
  • The Blacksite Collection: 6th December 2018

Collection Release Dates

Unfortunately, there is no rhyme, reason or pattern for skin collection release dates, so there’s no way to predict when they will come. For the previous few years, Valve released around three to four new collections in Operations Riptide, Operation Broken Fang and Operation Shattered Web.

The most recent collections released and available for all Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players were the 2018 Nuke and 2018 Inferno collections which are still available in the CSGO weekly drop.
