All About CS:GO

Counter-Strike Global Offensive (CS:GO)  is a popular online esports game that was released back in 2012 and is the fourth in the Counter-Strike game series. Here are some quick facts you may need to learn about the game:

  • Available Platform – Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3
  • Does Not Support Cross-Platform Play
  • Game Genre: FPS – First Person Shooter / Tactical Shooter
  • Game Modes: Free2Play and Paid Premium Version plus Microtransactions
  • Publisher – Valve
  • Entwickler – Valve / Hidden Path Entertainment

Most players prefer the Competitive game mode. This involves two teams – the terrorist side and the counter-terrorists side that fight each other on a map or a variety of maps. Each team then will need to win a specific number of rounds to win the match. They can do so by either successfully detonating a bomb (if the players are terrorists) or defusing a bomb (if the team players are counter-terrorists). A team can also win by killing all players in the opposing team, even without detonating a bomb. The Counter-Terrorist team can also win if the round finished without the Terrorist team placing the bomb.

Halfway through the game, the teams get flipped and the roles reversed. Most pro games are the best of 30, with the roles being changed after game 15. Each team will get the map or maps that they play in the series.

Other popular variations of the game include CS:GO Deathmatch, Arms Race, Wingman, Hostage Rescue, Demolition, Flying Scoutsman and Battle Royale Danger Zone

How do CS:GO Tournaments Work?

Most major CS:GO tournaments require teams to qualify in the league. Once they are qualified, they can take part in the championship. Then at the event, only the relevant players will be allowed on the server – coaches and staff will not be allowed to access the server or it will lead to disqualification. The teams and players will then take part in a series of matches in order to be crowned champions, win the prize pool and receive major rankings points.  Each match will usually last for a number of hours and the tournament takes place over a week or two.
